Hello and Welcome to my campaign page.
I am Andrew Von Lintel and I am ready to serve Manhattan's 54,000 Citizens on the City Commission. Many Citizens have been increasingly frustrated by the decision making from our leaders and I hope that I can start moving the City to a more financially responsible position, fix roads, add transparency, and give clear direction to the City Manager.
The City needs a public relations makeover with many of its residents. The Aggieville $1 land exchange, large tax breaks for developers, and fees on recreation centers that were expected to be free, are all decisions that breakdown trust. While these questionable decisions are happening, we continue to see residential property taxes and city debt increase. The general obligation fund of the city has $170 million worth of debt and is expected to pay about $6.6 million in interest in 2026. While that isn't all of the City's debt, it is my biggest concern as it leads directly to property tax increases. The City Commission is trying to amplify the problem by moving us to an expensive indoor pool project (Estimates 50-65 million). More debt means higher property taxes.
What are we going to do?
-
Stop raising taxes and start lowering them.
-
Stop adding debt.
-
Divert more money to Fixing Roads and certainly extend the Streets Special Tax.
-
End the Recreation Center Fees
-
Have more votes in meetings to give the City Managers and Voters a better understanding of what their representatives are doing.
I hope to earn your trust and your Vote!!!
Andrew Von Lintel
Candidate for City Commission
